🔹 Short-term (up to 6 hours)

  • Place the body in the coolest part of your home – the bathroom, a balcony (in winter), or the floor near a window.

  • Lay down a towel or cloth.

  • Cover with a light blanket or sheet.

  • If possible – turn off the heating in that room.

  • Don’t wrap the body tightly – airflow is important.

🔹 Medium-term (6–24 hours)

  • Add cold packs or frozen water bottles – place them near the body, without direct contact.

  • You can add another light layer of fabric on top.

  • Limit light and heat – keep curtains closed and lights off.

  • If you have an empty freezer without food – the body can be temporarily stored there, wrapped in fabric and a bag. This is a radical option, but sometimes the only possible one.

🔹 Longer-term (more than 24 hours)

  • Contact a veterinary clinic or crematorium.

  • Most of them have refrigeration for temporary body storage until the farewell.

Additional:

  • If there is any fluid leakage – place a pad or towel underneath.

  • Do not leave children or other animals in the room.

  • Handle the body gently – this is the last gesture of respect and love.
